The stretching and preening went on for quite
some time. This photo was taken within moments of her casting a
pellet. Although this posture may appear defensive, she was simply
stretching her wings.
Several minutes after this photo was taken, she flew over our
heads and landed in a tree that was even closer. As the last bit of
remaining light departed, she flew over a meadow, hovered for about 30
seconds, and then flew off into the night. I returned thirteen days
later at dusk to find her eating an American Coot.
