On the morning of Sunday, 10 June, 2001, Sue Friscia posted a message to IBET that she received a call from Rich Biss (the person who does the Chicago area RBA)  indicating that Bob Erickson found a Curlew Sandpiper at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Lake County, Illinois.  I arrived at Great Lakes around 2:30 that afternoon and began taking photos.  These photos would not have been possible were it not for the kindness of Karen & Bob Fisher, who lent me a piece to secure my tripod head.  Not to mention the efforts of Donald R. Dann and others who worked to preserve critical habitat at Great Lakes, and Bob, Rich, and Sue for communicating this great find.

Following are 14 of these photos.  The first 8 were taken by holding an Olympus C-3030 Zoom digital camera up to a Leica 77mm APO Televid telescope.  The last 6 photos, which show the bird in flight, are stills captured from video taken using a Sony Digital-8 Video Camera with a Kenko 3x teleconverter attached.
